Sunday Evening Ponders

Having the same conversation with yourself as you did last year? Three honest questions to ask when the same goals keep coming round and nothing changes.

Sunday evenings are often a time for reflection, as the new week heads towards us at the speed of a train.

What am I doing? Where am I going? We start musing about relationships, careers, the world around us, or just some good old naval gazing, pondering the meaning of life, is this what I thought I would be doing? Am I the person I thought I would be when I was growing up?

This feeling is always increased after the festive season, when all the decorations are down, the children are going back to school, jobs are being returned to and life is returning to normal, whatever normal is. Plans, goals, aspirations for the New Year seem to be forced upon us.

So, if you are sitting quietly contemplating your life, ask yourself this

“Are you having the same conversation with yourself that you had last year, or the year before or the year before that?”

If you aren’t great, well done, skip on to the next post.

BUT if you are, if you are having EXACTLY the same conversation you had with yourself last year. You need to ask yourself 3 questions.

1. Is it important enough for you to change, to do something about it? If it isn’t, also skip to the next post!
2. BUT if it is AND you are, what went wrong? And don’t blame Auntie Mary or Brexit or your partner or your boss. What REALLY went wrong, be honest with yourself, what part did YOU play or NOT play in the changes you wanted to make and why they DIDN’T happen?
3. Using the answers to no. 2 ask yourself what you WILL do different this year? As Auntie Mary, Brexit, your partner or your boss or their equivalent will still be there, what are YOU going to do differently, to give yourself the life you want and deserve?

I went on a course once, where at the end of every module they finished with the saying ‘IF IT’S TO BE, IT’S UP TO ME.” And it is. 😉
